Lilly smiled warmly at Ren and gave him a feeble wave. She still felt bad for acting up so much last night and she was determined not to do the same today. As she followed Hagrid towards the Great Hall doors she answered.
"Well, I'm taking your class, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Potions, and Charms. My goal is to become and Auror, but I don't think I'm cut out for the job. I mean, there's no Death Eaters left to find--at least I think there isn't. I honestly don't know. What are your thoughts on the subject?"
Presently she tore her gaze away from Ren's stony eyes and placed it upon Hagrid. As she waited for his response she rummaged through her mind to find something to say to Ren. What was she to say to someone who had seen her when she'd practically gone on a rampage? The more she pondered the more the answer became clear. The best thing to do at the moment was to begin with small talk.
"Yes, Ren, how are you since last night?" she said. "I'm really sorry about all that I did. I must've frightened you pretty badly! My apologies."

Ren smiled. "No problem. I'm just glad I was able to keep up with you." He made no mention of the fact that they had both been deep inside the Forbidden Forest, especially with Hagrid standing right there. The forest's name was well-put, and students were generally not permitted to wander inside its maze of trees.
"Always happy to help, it was no trouble."
He turned to Hagrid, his eyes sparking with curiosity. "How about you Hagrid? Found anything interesting lately?" He knew Hagrid better than most students, simply because Hagrid's stories of strange and mystical creatures that he had met and found within the Forbidden Forest fascinated him.
"You haven't told me about your trips lately, something must have happened by now!"
He regarded the two, a faint smile upon his lips. They looked silly standing together, simply because Hagrid towered over Lilly, making her look very tiny in comparison. Then again, Hagrid made everyone look tiny in comparison.

Lilly blushed and turned her face away from Ren's penetrating gaze. She felt really insecure around him since last night. While he conversed with Hagrid she began to walk rapidly towards the Great Hall, leaving the other two behind. Suddenly, at the moment, she didn't really want to be around either of them.
Their happy faces, carefree persona... It seemed to sicken Lillykra. She was conflicted with so many thoughts at once, and she wished desperately that her brother were there to comfort her. He'd understand. He'd listen.
Too bad he wasn't around.
By the time Lillykra reached the Great Hall doors tears were trickling down her face. She wiped them away furiously with her other hand on one of the doors. When the tears were gone she pushed open the doors and went inside, heading towards the Gryffindor table.

Ren watched sadly as Lilly quickened her pace and left him and Hagrid behind. She switched moods so quickly, he hardly knew what to think about her. He sighed, shook his head, and decided that she wanted to be alone. He followed in her wake, heading for the Great Hall, and breakfast.
Ren's stomach gave a small, insistent growl at the thought of a meal, and he let his mind wander to food, a much much simpler realm than girls, that was for sure. Food was food, and breakfast was his favorite meal of the day.
His pace quickened a little, and he entered the Great Halls hot on Lilly's heels. He saw her take her seat off at the Gyffindor table, as he quickly walked to his own house's table. He felt a little guilty when he saw her face. She looked upset. He hoped it hadn't been something he did. He shook his head, trying to will himself to concentrate again on eating food. He took his place at the table just as breakfast began.

Lillykra quickly glanced at Ren as he sat down at his seat. She was such an idiot! She was starting to be emotional again, something she promised herself she wouldn't do again when he was around. Forcing her displeasing thoughts out of her mind, she rose from her lonely seat and strolled over to the Hufflepuff table.
"Can I sit with you?" she asked feebly. "My friends won't seem to shut up about boys and it's getting really annoying. Besides, I'd much rather spend my time with you, if that's all right."
She smiled wistfully and stood waiting for Ren's reply.

Ren looked up at Lilly with surprise. He had been just about to dig into his food, his mind blissfully as occupied with his breakfast as his mouth was about to be...when suddenly Lilly had appeared at his side like some repentant ghost from his past.
He paused, saw the hidden look of pleading etched into her features, and moved over hastily. He patted the seat that he had just vacated.
"Sure, you can sit next to me," he replied, giving a comforting grin. "I won't talk about boys, I promise."
He shoveled a few forkful of eggs into his mouth as he waited for her to take her seat, knowing that this girl talked a lot and if he wanted to be able to eat, he'd better start now. He swallowed, and looked sidelong at her, a little sheepishly. "Sorry if I'm not very good company while I'm eating, I'm very hungry...as you can probably see."

Lilly's helpless smile widened and she sat down next to Ren. Finally, some new company that wasn't her girlie girl friends. She chuckled at her new friend's words.
"I don't mind," she said quietly. "Eat as much as you like. I won't bother you."
True to her word, Lilly sat as quiet as the Sorting Hat when it wasn't in use. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and pulled a plate towards her, filling it up with the same amount of food as Ren, which happened to be a lot. Her smile disappeared as she started cramming food into her mouth.
It was very, very unladylike, but who was to tell her otherwise? Lillykra didn't have a care in the world except food and Ren. While she ate she would occasionally glance at Ren from the corner of her eye. She was beginning to like him a lot more than a recently single girl should, but she couldn't help it.
He actually seemed to care about her well-being, unlike most of her friends.

Ren grinned wolfishly as he watched Lilly begin downing her own breakfast with a gusto and hunger that matched his own. He tried hard not to laugh while eating, because results of such an action could end disastrously.
He set down his fork and leaned back in his chair, taking a small break from cramming food down his throat, allowing the delicious taste of the food to sink in.
"Well, I can see I'm not the only one who's hungry," he said teasingly once he had swallowed his last mouthful. "I don't think I've ever seen a girl who could eat like you!" He smiled, reassuringly as he continued, "Don't get me wrong, though. It's refreshing. I get tired of girls always acting how they're expected and supposed to act. I like it when somebody actually breaks the chain and acts a little different from everyone else."
At this, his hunger returned, he snatched up his fork again and resumed his former shoveling of food.

Lillykra paused, placing her fork on her plate and swallowing the food in her mouth. She was a little stunned at what Ren said. She always assumed that boys expected that kind of stuff in girls. Not that she ever cared, but it just surprised her.
"You're tired of it?" she asked. "Try hanging out with a bunch of stereotypical girls every single day! You know how annoying it gets to be around girls who barely eat, who talk about boys non stop, and who can't make up their minds about who they want to be with? I'm constantly having to reassure them that everything will turn out all right in the end, even if in my own mind I know it probably won't be. Every moment of my life is spent trying to console them, when all I really want is some peace and quiet.
"You honestly have no idea what it's really like."
Lilly eyed Ren sullenly, then hastily returned to her food when the pang of hunger surged through her. This time she barely averted her gaze at all from her plate and continued eating until she was completely finished. When she was, she put her fork down again and leaned against her chair. She'd never been so full in her life.

Ren patted his stomach in a satisfied way, full of delicious breakfast. He sighed happily, and turned to Lilly, to see that she had finished as well.
He pushed his languid mind into action, willing it to regain the ability to converse, until he realized what Lilly had said about what it was like hanging out with girls all the time.
He laughed then, and replied, "Well, why do you think I never hang out with girls? They're always gossiping and making drama. I hate drama. I'd much rather hang out with guy friends, because at least they're simple to get along with and they don't stir up drama wherever they go."
"Granted they can be a little dull at times, but I'd take that over all that girly behavior any day."

Lilly laughed.
"I'd much rather hang out with guys than girls. I mean, girls have their perks and everything, but guys, as you say, are a lot simpler. I know, I have a brother. Plus, I hate drama just as much as you do. But, no matter how hard I try, I always seem to get involved. I'm practically the 'Advice Guru' in my group. I'd really like a break though.
"But why should I hang out with guys when they're the cause of girls' problems? I mean, only yesterday, which surely you remember, I was having an emotional and mental breakdown because of a boy. Seriously, guys have more effect on girls than they realize."
She waved her hand carelessly, as though she was trying to swap a fly away from her face.
"Honestly, you people should be more careful! Girls' hearts are very tender, you know."

Ren listened intently, and shrugged. "We both have our good sides and our bad sides I suppose. All I know is that whoever was making you feel like that must not be too smart, because I wouldn't want to be on your bad side. And I don't like guys who prey on girls either. If they're that insecure then they're just pathetic."
He glared slightly, then shook his head and softened his gaze. "Sorry, I get worked up about things like this sometimes. Some kinds of people just get on my nerves, and I get really angry and nobody in particular."
He smiled. "But anyway, I digress. What made you come over here? Back in the entrance hall I thought maybe I had done something to upset you, you walked off so fast. I figured you wished to be alone, and you didn't look so great either. If there's anything I can do to help, I'd be glad to. I'm a good listener."

Lillykra's gaze faded and she closed her tired eyes. Memories of him flashed through her brain and everything she tried to suppress resurfaced. Shutting her eyes tightly to prevent the tears, she took a deep breath and sighed.
"Actually, the person who did this to me was almost exactly like you. He cared about me a lot; more than I ever could toward him. We did all the things normal couples do. We held hands, we hugged, and we kissed. But... I don't even know what happened. It's like an image in a pool of water that's been obstructed by someone throwing a rock across the surface. What he wanted and what I wanted were two completely different things.
"He wanted popularity. I wanted friends. He wanted to be known. I was already known by a bunch of people. Our relationship faded into the mist like a ghost whose unfinished task has been completed. No one ever saw it coming. My friends thought it would last forever, and even though I wished to believe them, I never could. They spoke of marriage, I saw no possibility. They spoke of forever, I saw no reason. They spoke of everything, I saw nothing. The only thing I could see, which they would never understand, was secrets waiting to be told.
"After he found out about me being a witch, everything went downhill. We grew further and further apart, and no matter how hard I tried to keep the ties together it was to no avail. He went his way, I went mine. End of story."
Lilly stopped. Her eyes opened and shone with sadness and grief. They told everything that she couldn't with deeper meaning. What she told and what they told were completely different. She told Ren of her sadness as though it were something to be forgotten. Her eyes were lost in the events of what happened, which were things always to be remembered.
Words cannot describe feelings.

Ren listened with the silence of true concern. He learned the whole story of what had happened, and this time, his emotions went on the roller coaster ride as well. He could see what it had done to her. The girl wasn't just upset, she was destroyed. She had been stretched to her limit and broken, and now she was trying to figure it all out on her own. No wonder Lilly was so unpredictable.
She was living with the eternal guilt of a failed relationship. And the worst of it was that she was blaming herself.
He shook his head, not saying anything, knowing that what she needed right now was a shoulder to lean on. He simply reached out, put a hand on her shoulder, as though to steady her should she fall, and looked into her eyes.
"It's going to be okay. You're not alone in this, I'm here." he said. That was all he said.
It was all that was needed.

Lilly sighed again.
"I can't accept your help any longer," she said, moving away from Ren's hand. "You've been absolutely wonderful to me, but I can't let myself put my problems in your hands. I have to deal with this myself. I've been dealing with it alone since it happened."
She stood up and stepped away from the Hufflepuff table. A few tears trickled down her face as she tried to suppress her feelings and thoughts once more. She wiped the sparkling droplets of water away and stood tall with her head held high.
"These are my problems, not yours. You shouldn't have to bear the burden with me. It will only bring you sorrow and despair.
And with that, she turned and left.
